EDEM is the world's leading commercial Discrete Element Method (DEM) tool for simulating bulk solids handling and process systems. It features an off the shelf link to ANSYS FLUENT for 1- or 2-way DEM-CFD coupling, and development is underway for coupling with ANSYS FEA for passing the loads from DEM simulations to ANSYS for structural analysis. EDEM is widely used in the Mining, Chemical, Agricultural, Pharmaceutical and Food Processing industries.
The seminar will explain how using EDEM to simulate bulk handling system performance allows greater understanding of the bulk behaviour and machinery loading. This greater understanding allows you to devise more reliable designs earlier and benefit from greater production and process efficiencies. EDEM easily integrates with other CAD and engineering tools, allowing engineers to apply DEM as an integral part of their design and analysis tool kit.

Presenter Profile - Dr John Favier, Founder & CEO, DEM Solutions, United Kingdom
John founded DEM Solutions in 2002. The company has grown to become the global leader in discrete element modelling software. Long established as a research tool for granular mechanics, DEM is now the fastest growing segment of the CAE software market. EDEM is driving the update of DEM technology by industry for solution of a wide range of problems in particle handling and processing. Prior to founding the company, John attained over 15 years of experience in teaching and research in application of numerical methods to the solution of engineering problems. John is responsible for the development of key techniques for DEM (Discrete Element Method) simulation of industrial particulate processes, including the accurate representation of non-spherical particles, easy implementation of 3D CAD geometry, and the coupling of DEM with continuum-based numerical methods such as CFD.
